Speakers

Rocío Calvo Martín

Rocío Calvo Martín is a Senior UX Researcher at Aviva. Her PhD research looked at how to improve chat interaction for people with disabilities, and older adults. She is certified by IAAP as a web accessibility specialist and CPACC. Prior to Aviva, she was an accessibility and usability consultant at AbilityNet.

Rocío will explain why accessibility is important and will give practical insights and tips on how to bring accessibility to the forefront of your organisation’s agenda.

David Caldwell

David Caldwell joined Barclays in 2011. He supports product teams to deliver accessible and inclusive experiences, and also leads the training and development of colleagues in accessibility and inclusive design. He also runs Barclays’ accessibility outreach programme, supporting community projects such as London Accessibility Meetup. Outside of his day job, David is an Ambassador for PurpleSpace, the world’s only professional development network for disabled people, network leaders and disability agenda allies.

With an ambition to become the most accessible and inclusive FTSE company, Barclays has given itself a challenging brief – to define and embed a culture of accessibility that goes beyond the basics and ensures that products and services work for everyone, every time. In this talk, we’ll discover the why and the how of this ambition and learn about the approach being taken by Barclays to move the accessibility agenda forward.

Joshua Marshall

Joshua Marshall is a London-based freelance digital accessibility specialist.  A founding member of the Government Digital Service, he was previously responsible for evangelising and delivering accessibility across the GDS digital transformation programme, including the award-winning GOV.UK website. He now works for companies large and small to further their accessibility efforts and to promote good inclusive design and development.

During his talk, Joshua will reveal the rules he puts in place, or looks for, when working with teams to create the most accessible work possible. He will also share the things he has gotten wrong that you will want to avoid on your own projects.
